Water filters that use the reverse osmosis process to treat water are some of
the most popular on the market today. The process itself requires a minimal
amount of equipment and is easy for consumers to maintain. Filters have
become a popular commodity in the homes of many residents because of the many
contaminants that can be found in the H2O that is used by most people. Since
water filters that use the process are easy to sustain, many residents are
purchasing reverse osmosis filters because of their effectiveness and
durability. These residents are finding the quality of their water is heightened
due to the efficiency of the process.
The general filters that use the reverse osmosis process include a
particle filter, reverse membrane unit, pressurized water treatment storage
container and post filter. These pieces of equipment come together to make water
filters that are successful at removing many particles, chemicals and compounds
that are found in tap H2O.
The particle filter is the first water filter that the water is passed through.
This filter is designed to allow the water to flow through but to leave behind
any particles that may still be present in the H2O. The pre filter of water
filters is sometimes called the sediment filter because it is able to remove
even the smallest suspended particles from the water.
The H2O is then passed through the reverse osmosis membrane. This membrane is
the reason that most of these water filters are so effective. There are many types of membranes used in water filters
but the most common on the market are made of cellulose acetate or polyamide
resins. These materials specialize in trapping the particles and toxins that are
present in the H2O. These materials can also be mixed together to make the
membrane in many water filters and can prove to be just as effective.
After the water has passed through the pre filter and the membrane, the water is
ready to flow to the storage tank. Most storage tanks included with water
filters generally hold about two to five gallons of water. Most of the tanks are
pressurized to ensure the H2O flow will be substantial for the user. Tanks are
usually stored under the sink for optimal pressure flow of the water. (The
Direct Flow does not use a tank and thus avoids potential bacteria build up).
Before the water is released through the tap for consumption or use, it is run
through a post filter to guarantee the removal of unwanted chemicals or
contaminants. The post filter is usually made out of carbon because it is a
media that specializes in filtering out any types of odors and particles that
may still be present in the H2O. Water filters which contain a post filter in
the reverse osmosis process give an added assurance of the removal of odors or
chemicals.
Water filters that use the reverse osmosis process move the water through many
different phases before it ever reaches the tap. These many filters only allow
quality water to be supplied to residents. Consumers are able to enjoy fresh
tasting and contaminant-free H2O right from the tap with the help of these
water filters.
